WOMEN

HAIRSTYLING TIPS

  1. Women's ROGAINE® has the consistency of water and is applied only to the scalp. Applying it to the scalp, twice daily as recommended, should not affect your hairstyle or make your hair greasy.

  2. No, the sun will not make hair thinning worse, but it is a good idea to protect your scalp from the sun with a hat or sunscreen.

  3. Yes. You can follow your normal hair care routine when using ROGAINE®. Just be sure to apply ROGAINE® first and wait for it to dry before applying your styling products.

Want to know more about styling your thinning hair? Celebrity stylist Thom Priano shares his secrets here.

  4. The people in our clinical studies were advised to completely dry their hair and scalp before applying ROGAINE®. However, that's not always possible. We suggest that you at least towel-dry your hair before applying ROGAINE®, so that your hair is no longer dripping.

For more advice on styling your thinning hair on the go, check out celebrity stylist Thom Priano’s hairstyling tips.

  5. If, like many women, you prefer not to let your hair air dry, it’s fine to blow-dry your hair. Just use your dryer on a medium to low setting after applying ROGAINE®.

Celebrity stylist Thom Priano has more tips for looking your best with thinning hair.

  6. You can go swimming/go out in rain as long as you use good judgment. Avoid washing off ROGAINE®. If possible, apply ROGAINE® to a dry scalp after swimming. Try not to let your scalp get wet from the rain after applying ROGAINE®.

  7. ROGAINE® can be used on both permed and color-treated hair. On the same day your hair is colored or treated with permanent wave chemicals, we recommend that you don’t use ROGAINE® if you are concerned about scalp irritation.

For more expert advice, check out celebrity stylist Thom Priano's tips.

  8. When using ROGAINE®, we recommend the use of a mild, gentle shampoo. Topical medications are not recommended while using ROGAINE®. If the condition persists and it is bothersome, discontinue use and consult your doctor.

  9. If your hair thinning is caused by hereditary hair loss, then your hair can benefit from permanent or semi-permanent color to give body and volume to hair. It should, however, be professionally applied since colored hair can easily get overprocessed, causing further hair loss.

  10. You should use a shampoo that cleanses your scalp well and a conditioner that is light and won't weigh down hair.

  11. You can continue to style and care for your hair the same way you always have. Women's ROGAINE® is applied to the scalp after you've washed and towel-dried your hair. Wait for it to dry, and then just style your hair as you normally would.

ROGAINE® BASICS

  1. In hereditary hair loss, a combination of heredity, hormones, and age causes a progressive shrinking, or miniaturization, of certain scalp follicles. This causes a shortening of the hair's growing cycle. Over time, as the active growth phase becomes shorter, the resting phase becomes longer. Eventually, there may be no growth at all. The exact mechanism of action of ROGAINE® is uncertain. However, researchers believe that ROGAINE® works in part by partially enlarging the hair follicles and reversing the miniaturization process. By enlarging miniaturized follicles, the growth phase of the hair cycle is prolonged, allowing the hair to become longer and thicker-looking. And with more follicles in the growth phase at the same time, it is possible to see improved coverage of the scalp.

  2. ROGAINE® is used to treat hereditary hair loss. The checklist below will help you determine if ROGAINE® is right for you.

    • Members of your immediate family or extended family, male or female, have experienced hair loss.
    • You notice more hair than usual in the shower drain, on your pillow, or in your hairbrush.
    • You've changed your hairstyle to cover up your hair loss.

If two or more of these statements are true, you may be experiencing hereditary hair loss. Talk to your doctor to find out if ROGAINE® is right for you.

  3. Some people may experience a dry, itchy scalp and irritation. If the condition persists, stop use and see your doctor. Infrequent cases of unwanted facial hair have been reported in women. If you develop unwanted facial hair while using Women’s ROGAINE®, it will usually disappear when use of ROGAINE® is discontinued.

  4. To our knowledge, there are currently no known drug interactions associated with medications taken by mouth and the use of ROGAINE®. You should not use ROGAINE® if you are using other topical medicines on the scalp.

Did you know that some medications can cause hair loss? Find out more from hair loss and regrowth expert Dr. Robert Leonard.

  5. The shelf life is 5 years.

  6. As with most medications, pregnant or nursing women shouldn't use ROGAINE®.

  7. ROGAINE® is the first and only FDA-approved topical treatment that is clinically proven to regrow hair in women. ROGAINE® helps to reverse the progression of hereditary hair loss.

GETTING STARTED

  1. Since normal hair usually grows only 1/2 to 1 inch per month, hair regrowth with ROGAINE® also takes time. At first, hair regrowth shows up usually as soft, downy, colorless hair. After further use, new hair should develop having the same color and thickness as other hairs on your scalp. It takes time to regrow hair. You need to use this product 2 times a day for at least 4 months before you see results. Your results and success may depend on proper application and dosage; remember to apply ROGAINE® twice a day, every day, directly to the scalp.

  2. There are a few signs that let you know ROGAINE® is at work on your hair follicles. For example, during the first few weeks of use, there may be a temporary increase in hair shedding. Don't worry—this is a good sign. It means that the new growth cycle is beginning and the older hairs you would have lost are making way for the new healthy ones. If this hair loss continues after 2 weeks on ROGAINE®, talk to your doctor. Eventually, you will see less hair in your brush, on your pillow, and in your drain. This is encouraging and means that ROGAINE® is stimulating regrowth. Remember, not everyone responds to ROGAINE® and individual results may vary.

  3. ROGAINE® stimulates hair follicles to shift from the resting phase to the growth phase. Thus, it is not uncommon to see a temporary increase in shedding during the first 2 weeks using ROGAINE®. This occurs in some people as the new hair pushes out the older hairs you would have lost, when the hair follicle shifts into the growth phase. It is very much like losing baby teeth to make room for adult teeth. This increase in shedding is only temporary. Please note, however, if increased shedding continues for longer than 2 weeks, you should consult your doctor to rule out other possible medical problems.

  4. ROGAINE® regrows hair that is healthier and thicker looking. Although the earliest hair regrowth you see may be soft and downy, further treatment produces new hair with the same consistency as the other hair on your scalp.

GETTING THE MOST FROM ROGAINE®

  1. Hereditary hair loss is a lifelong condition requiring continuous use of ROGAINE®. Make it a part of your daily routine—just like brushing your teeth.

  2. Continued use of ROGAINE® is needed to maintain hair regrowth. If you stop using it, the normal hair loss process will start again. You will probably lose your newly regrown hair within 3 to 4 months and will look the way you looked before using ROGAINE®. So, you’ll want to make ROGAINE® part of your daily routine.

  3. If you miss 1 or 2 doses of ROGAINE®, just continue with your next regular dose. We do not recommend that you try to make up for missed doses. One or 2 days of not using ROGAINE® will not affect your long-term hair regrowth as long as you resume regular use.
